Characters of Worlds Apart

The following are the key characters introduced in Worlds Apart.

Main Characters

Peter Cross

An employee at the institution who works in the main room and dispenses medication to the patients.

He is secretly on a mandatory medication regimen for a prior schizophrenia diagnosis, but attempts to stop taking his injections due to side effects.

After discontinuing his medication, he begins to see the same “blurs” or “trails” that the patients are seeing, which leads him to believe they are not sick but are using a part of the brain others do not.

He is arrested for refusing to take his prescribed medication but escapes the institution with the help of the patients.

He is later associated with an underground group on the moon (Lunar Angeles) and teams up with a man named Marsh on Earth.

Jay (Jay Phillips)

A patient at the institution with schizophrenia, often prone to manic episodes.

He first warns Peter that he is going to be contacted by “They”.

He is able to see the same visual phenomena as Peter.

He is instrumental in Peter’s escape, leading the other patients to attack the police and orderlies and telling Peter to flee the building .

Dr. Filmore

The doctor who runs the institution and Peter’s personal physician.

He is a firm believer in the mandatory medication program, which he claims is necessary to help people cope with the realities of the modern world.

He concealed Peter’s childhood schizophrenia diagnosis and placed him on a specialized medication for his protection.

He attempts to force Peter to take his medication and reports him to the police for non-compliance.

Marsh

A police officer/detective who is searching for his wife, whom the police think is involved with a group called “World”.

He travels from the moon (Lunar Angeles) to Earth.

He eventually teams up with Peter.

Ali

Peter’s wife and a member of an underground group that the police track.

She is ambushed by police with Peter and Jocko.

She retrieves Jocko’s car keys after his execution.

Supporting Characters

Sylvie: Who is believed to be involved with the group ‘World’ and is eventually abducted in Lunar Angeles. She appears to be working against Marsh.

Captain Beel: A superior police officer who leads the search for Peter Cross and uses specialized droids to locate people off their mandatory medication.

Jocko Doyle: A man working with Peter and Ali who is ambushed by a police officer.

Pagan: The apparent leader of the underground group Peter and Ali are involved with.

Robins: A man Marsh is looking for. Peter later chases him in Lunar Angeles.

Nurse Anderson: A staff member at the institution who expresses concern over Jay Phillips’ increased manic stages.

Homeless Man: A disheveled man on the street who speaks cryptic warnings to Peter.
