The world of Simulation – 1988 is characterized by people’s consciousnesses shuffling into a different body each day at dusk, and a drastically reduced population in an eternal loop of September 1, 1988. The characters below are people who inhabit these temporary bodies.
Ben was 38 years old when the “glitch” started.
He is desperately seeking to spend each day with his wife, Ella, often driving long distances to meet her at pre-arranged locations.
He can recognize Ella by her eyes, regardless of the body she is occupying.
He believes that the simulation is “by design”.
He often occupies male or female bodies of various ages.
She is Ben’s wife and shares his goal of reuniting with him daily.
Before the glitch, she was a traveling nurse, which helped them establish a large repertoire of meeting places across different regions.
She has occupied a wide variety of bodies, including a Chilean man locked in a prison cell on Alcatraz and a Korean woman in her early thirties in Australia.
He is known as “the angel of death” and attempts to kill one person at the end of each day, believing that if no one is aging and he will eventually be the last one remaining.
He is often seen in a “short man, seemingly around forty-ish years old” body but has also been seen in bodies such as:
An extremely obese man rigged with explosives.
A tall Asian man on a boat, shooting holes in the vessel.
A frail old white woman driving a semi truck with a snowplow attachment.
Unlike Ben and Ella, Rosie was born during the glitch.
She is unsure of her original gender but identifies as female and kept the name “Rosie” because a kind person once referred to her “Rosy cheeks”.
She has an extraordinary memory, claiming to remember every person’s body she has inhabited for more than sixteen years.
She often avoids people, but felt safe enough to talk to Ben, who she first met in the body of a younger white man in his twenties.
The connection to the world outside the simulation.
A person present in the box van with Ben and John during the attack by Keith.
Her body was thrown face first into the dashboard after the van spun and collided with the guardrail.
A person whose consciousness entered the body that Keith had just left after jumping from a hot air balloon.
Her experience ended in terror.
