DMI (Developmental Mastery Institute) – The organization or place of work for individuals with “the gift,” such as Franco and Adam, where they are paid to use their abilities to create scenarios. People who work there are referred to as being “DMI material”.
The Gift – The term for the special mental abilities possessed by certain people, including Franco and Adam, which allows them to manipulate reality, read minds, have telekinetic abilities, and conjure people or objects.
Tenners – A slang term used by Adam to refer to “ordinary people that use ten percent of their brain”.
Eden – A safe environment, described as a building, where the people who “protect” the others get to live. It is where people’s lives are preserved, and they can live longer, up to fifty or sixty years old.
Controllers – The name Page gives to the people who are in control of the simulated world where she and Franco initially lived, after realizing they were connected to a computer.
Freaks – The name Cass uses for the people in the outside world who are physically affected by the pollution from the nuclear war.
Alien Assault Case – The news report Page watches, describing a series of “bizarre serial incidents” where women are assaulted in their sleep by an unseen or “no visible perpetrator,” which is implied to be related to the mental conjuring of DMI members.
Green Pill – The drug Franco takes in the first chapter, which he requests to induce “euphoria with a hallucinogenic twinge to it”.
Bee’s Wax – The specific brand of beer Franco requests from the bartender.
