Collin – A young man and one of the survivors of the ship landing. He wears a white jumpsuit with light blue cords.
Kaya – A young woman who survived the crash of the second, burning ship. She wears a white jumpsuit with red cords.
Jenny – The older woman and leader of the surviving group. She was in a state of complete animated suspension during the long space voyage.
Robert – Jenny’s husband and one of the two original mentors, who died in the crash of the second ship. He was also in a state of complete animated suspension.
Andrew, Jeremiah, Jacob, Treet – The other four young men who emerged from the first landed ship.
Thrae – The name the group eventually agreed upon for the planet they landed on. The name is an approximate spelling of “Earth” backward, suggesting a hope for a new beginning unlike their former home.
Final War – The war on Earth that caused the group to flee their world. Jenny mentions that the war should have “leveled almost everything”.
Suspended Animated State/Suspension – The condition the children were kept in during their voyage, allowing them to absorb historical information and grow very slowly.
Complete Animated Suspension – The deep state of suspension that Jenny and Robert were in, implying they did not age or grow at all during the journey.
Kaplan – A person whose theory was that the Earth itself created anger, evil, and greed before the Final War, a theory the contemporary government dismissed.
Camper/Mobile Home – The terms Jenny used interchangeably to refer to the four rusted metal boxes that Collin and Jeremiah discovered near a swampy area.
