Characters: Killer Earth

Killer Earth follows the small crew of two ship crafts who land on a planet meant to be the start of a new, cleansed human society, tracking the mission’s failure and the crew members’ psychological corruption.

Main Crew Members

Collin

Role: One of the young men aboard the first ship, between the ages of 1,500 and 1,550 years old (due to suspended animation). He is the first to exit the ship and immediately shows a sense of urgency and despair.

Internal Conflict: His guilt becomes so overwhelming it causes him a physical limp. He struggles with the crew’s teachings, eventually being seduced by relics of the Old Earth found in the metal boxes.

Final State: In a tormented dream, waking in “complete defeat”.

Jenny

Role: The adult leader and one of the two crew members who were in “complete animated suspension”. She is Robert’s wife.

Beliefs: She champions the mission’s goal to start a new society free of Earth’s past mistakes, emphasizing that sadness and anger “do not make sense to have”. She is the undisputed leader.

Actions: She calmly informs the young crew that one of the men, Robert, is dead.

Kaya

Role: The only other surviving young woman. She was not connected to the computer network for training like the boys, meaning she is not as knowledgeable about the others.

Emotional State: She is shown to be more emotionally affected by the death of Robert, remaining seated while the men explore. She later begins to question Jenny’s authority.

Supporting Crew Members

Robert

Role: Jenny’s husband and the co-leader of the mission, who was in complete animated suspension.

Fate: He is found dead in the first ship craft after landing.

Jeremiah

Role: One of the young men. He is the most scientific, calculating that the mission traveled for 1,500 to 1,550 years.

Conflict: He immediately questions why the planet and its animals look so similar to Earth. He adheres to the rule of not being alone, but Collin convinces him to leave.

Andrew, Jacob, and Treet

Andrew: Is awestruck by Jenny. He is tasked with preparing the “rabbits” and is the first to vomit upon eating solid food.

Treet: Finds the first food source. He jokes about naming the planet. He is later seen fighting or hunting Jeremiah.

Jacob: Assists Treet in the search for food.

Marion

Role: A character appearing in Collin’s dream sequence.

Symbolism: She represents the condemnation and judgment Collin feels, which he attempts to destroy.
