Behind the Scenes of Mind’s Edge

Mind’s Edge is built on a mix of post-apocalyptic tension, psychic abilities, and a fractured sense of home. This behind the scenes look focuses on how the world, characters, and power structure came together.

Why a Nuclear Divide?

The accidental nuclear war isn’t just a dramatic backdrop, it’s a way to separate the country into two moral realities. The clean sector tells itself it “contained” the damage. The nuclear states live with what containment actually means: poisoned land, abandoned communities, and generations forced to survive with what’s left.

New England’s isolation lets the story explore what happens when a region becomes both a warning and a dumping ground for consequences.

Creating the Radios

The Radios grew from the idea of survivors who couldn’t be safely reintegrated. Their infection alters the mind as much as the body, manifesting as dangerous psychic abilities. They are feared because they are powerful and hated because they are a living reminder of what the outside world allowed to happen.

Designing their abilities meant thinking less about flashy powers and more about threat: what kind of mental force would terrify people who thought they were safe behind political borders?

Building Edge’s Background

Edge was created as someone who could never fully escape the radioactive region, no matter how far he traveled. His Radio mother and Worlder father gave him a personal stake on both sides of the border, and his time in the nuclear states shaped his instincts more than any training ever could.

He’s not a detached investigator dropped into a strange land. He’s coming home.

Designing the Mission

The corporate murders mission was built to force Edge into moral conflict. On paper, his job is simple: track down the killer. In practice, every step of the investigation reveals how much the corporations and clean world leaders benefit from the suffering in the nuclear states.

Balancing Action and Emotion

Action scenes in the nuclear states, confrontations with Radios, militia incursions, ambushes in ruined streets, are always tied to relationships. Whether he’s with his best friend, his former girlfriend, or people who only see him as an outsider, Edge’s choices are never just tactical. They’re personal.
