Locations and Settings: Life Plug

Life Plug uses a dramatic contrast between its two primary settings: a seemingly idyllic, programmed simulation known as Eden, and the post apocalyptic, abusive real world that controls it.

Inside the Simulation (“Eden”)

The digital world is characterized by an illusion of normalcy, built and controlled by the “gifted” simulants who are actually programmers.

Franco’s Room: A central, private setting where Franco exercises his perceived “gifts,” using his programming abilities to conjure women for sex and meet with Jack to acquire designer drugs. The room is a representation of his programmed power and casual immorality.

Jack’s Room: A small, windowless room with bluish tinted walls and a metallic blue floor. It functions as a supply center where Franco meets Jack to obtain the specific drugs he requests.

Gillian’s Diner: The “crappy little diner” where Page works. This setting reflects her pessimistic view of her own life, emphasizing the mundane, purposeless feeling she experiences despite the underlying programming.

The Small Town: A local, programmed environment created by Franco himself, which he was “thrilled” to see named after him. This highlights the narcissistic fulfillment he derives from his “gifts” within the contained system.

Adam’s Amusement Park: A project currently being designed by a cynical “gifted” colleague. It signifies the ongoing effort by the programmers to create and refine the simulated surroundings for the inhabitants.

Outside the Simulation (The Real World)

The world outside the computer system is revealed to be a harsh, desperate place, defined by its decay and the abusive power structure.

The Desert: The vast external environment where Franco and Page wake up. It is a post nuclear wasteland after a war over a hundred years ago, forcing the escaped simulants to immediately enter a survival mode.

The Controllers’ Building/Sewer System: The building houses the computer system and is the location where Page is sexually assaulted upon waking up. It represents the central point of abuse and control.

The Tunnels: The old world’s sewer system where Cass and Franco hide from the pursuing controllers. This subterranean setting underscores the degraded state of the real world.

Finn’s Base: The location of Finn, an elderly ally to Cass. It is a temporary safe haven where Finn provides the group with a specially designed, three-wheeled motorcycle with a sidecar to aid their escape.
